100 Unreleased Michael Jackson Songs

I knew he had something up his sleeve. He had way too few albums to be around as long as he did. With a career as long as MJ’s he should have had like 15 albums. Check this out via Musicbyday–

100 Unreleased Michael Jackson Songs?

By Marvin Marks on Jun 26, 2009 in Music News

From 1979 (Off The Wall) through 2001 (Invincible) - Michael Jackson only released six studio albums. And since 2001 (despite many rumors of a 7th studio album titled 7EVEN coming out) Jackson has not released anything new. Just six albums in 30 years. So what Jackson really that unproductive? According to this story, the answer is not really.

Apparently there are about 100 unreleased Jackson songs that he recorded “for his children” (he left behind three children aged 6 through 12.) Considering the amount of debt he left at his death (according to this story he died $400 Million in debt) it’s very likely that many of these songs will be released in the coming years on posthumous albums in order to pay off his debts and supply money for his children. It seems to some extent that was Jackson’s plan (which would be surprising in that planning for his children’s future after his death means Jackson wasn’t quite as flaky as he often seemed.)

I am curious to know more about these 100 songs. When were they recorded? Were they set up by him as complete albums to be released at a later date?”

7 Business You Thought Were Good Ideas

This was interesting to me. Might not be so interesting to you, but I have my reasons so I felt you should know too.

Check it out via Yahoo! Finance:

The 7 Most Overrated Businesses

By Kelly K. Spors and Kevin SalwenWith roughly 6.7 million jobs lost since the start of the recession, it’s tempting - and often a great idea - to launch your own business. That way, of course, you can take matters into your own hands. No more rolling your eyes at the boss; it’s your show.

But many people do a lousy job of picking businesses they can realistically turn into a profitable operation.

“There’s this very sad pattern about how people start businesses,” says Scott Shane, an entrepreneurship professor at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. “People are most likely to start businesses in industries where start-ups are most likely to fail.”

The problem: Many would-be entrepreneurs are drawn to businesses they like to patronize or the ones that are cheapest and easiest to start. Instead, experts argue, aspiring entrepreneurs should create firms in which they have professional experience so they have a competitive advantage in the market.

So, what are most overrated businesses out there? We spoke with small business experts to find out. Here are seven you might want to think twice about - and then maybe twice more.

1. Restaurants. Dining out and cooking are among Americans’ favorite pastimes. But “restaurants are among the toughest businesses to run,” says Donna Ettenson, vice president of the Association of Small Business Development Centers in Burke, Va.

Far too many people assume their culinary abilities will lead to success in the restaurant business. Instead, about 60% of restaurants close in the first three years, according to a 2003 study at Ohio State University. That’s quite a bit higher than the roughly half of all start-ups that close in the first five years.

The reason: Restaurants typically have low profit margins and need strong managers who can run an ultra-tight ship through seasonal fluctuations and other struggles. Most people don’t have that kind of intense managerial ability to pull it off. By the way, the pitfalls are quite similar for restaurants’ cousin – the catering business. In other words, Chef Emptor.

2. Direct Sales. It’s a tempting pitch: Work from home and earn commissions by selling cosmetics, kitchen knives or cleaning products. But companies that recruit independent sales reps tend to attract new team members by pointing to the success of their highest earners.

A harder look shows that those high earners are making big money in large part by recruiting new reps into the organization and getting bonuses or a cut of their recruits’ commissions, says Ken Yancey, chief executive of SCORE, a Herndon, Va., organization of current and retired business executives who volunteer time counseling entrepreneurs. The new reps then have a much harder job because they need to recruit more people on top of selling product even though the number of reps out there is increasing.

The result, Yancey says: “Most of them wind up with a bunch of jewelry or kitchen equipment sitting in their basement that they can’t sell.”

3. Online Retail. By far, one of the easiest businesses to start is selling items through online marketplaces such as eBay or Amazon. But as online commerce ages and these sites fill up with more established retailers, it’s much harder for new, small sellers to compete for attention and generate a viable income.

“A lot of people are thinking it’s the Web of five or 10 years ago and you stand out simply because you’re on the Web,” says Rieva Lesonsky, chief executive of GrowBiz Media, a content and consulting company for small businesses based in Irvine, Calif.

Instead, successful online retailers today must have a handle on sourcing their products at a low enough price, then layering on clever online marketing and fine-tuned logistics. These businesses won’t generate much income if they can’t be easily found in searches, maintain a good reputation among buyers or add enough value so that sellers can build profit margins high enough to take on bigger players and physical stores.

4. High-End Retail. Many people dream of opening a day spa, luxury jewelry store or designer clothing boutique – businesses they feel good patronizing. But specialty retail businesses close at higher rates than non-specialty stores, according to the Small Business Administration’s Office of Advocacy, and are even riskier now that consumer discretionary spending has dried up and people are no longer spending money on little luxuries.

“It’s going to be a long time before we return to the days of conspicuous consumption,” says Ms. Lesonsky of GrowBiz Media. High-end retailers often suffer from poor locations and lack of understanding of how to source and market their products in an effective way. In today’s economy and in coming years, she says, retail entrepreneurs should be looking to sell non-discretionary consumer goods or offer items at a value rather than high-end products.

5. Independent Consulting. Common advice for aspiring entrepreneurs is to stick with industries they know. So, for many looking to escape the corporate treadmill that means turning their professional expertise into a one-person consulting firm.

It seems practical – more companies are indeed relying on independent contractors and freelancers these days – but it’s not as easy to pull off as many imagine, says Dennis Ceru, an entrepreneurship professor at Babson College in Babson Park, Mass. Many consultants struggle with time management problems, spending so much time scouting work that it’s very difficult to earn steady income. “The difficulty many face is they go through peaks and valleys of having work,” says Prof. Ceru. “When the engagement ends, they are frantically looking for work,” which may take weeks or months.

A possible solution: “A successful consulting firm needs people to find the work, grind out the work and mind the work. Unless you know you can do all three yourself, you potentially expose your business to great risk.”

6. Franchise Ownership. The idea of being handed a proven business plan without the uncertainties and headaches that come with building a business from scratch is understandably alluring. But too many people don’t understand the risks associated with franchising and sign restrictive franchise agreements without thoroughly researching their franchisor and their contractual obligations, says SCORE’s Yancey.

Some franchisors, for instance, allow franchisees to open stores too close together, oversaturating the market. Or they simply require their franchisees pay so much in royalties and fees or other operational costs that it’s very difficult to be profitable. Beyond that, when a franchisee fails, a franchisor may make it extremely difficult and costly to get out of its contract.

It’s a myth that franchises are far more successful than independent businesses. A 1995 study by a researcher at Wayne State University found that 62% of franchises were open for business after four years, compared with 68% of independent businesses. And franchises were also found to be less profitable in those early years.

7. Traffic-Driven Web Sites. Everybody has witnessed the success of social-networking sites like Facebook and popular blogs that generate all their revenue off advertising. But as the Internet ages, that’s much harder to accomplish, says Martin Zwilling, a start-up consultant in Fountain Hills, Ariz., who specializes in helping entrepreneurs find angel investors.

Zwilling says he hears pitches for new social-networking sites about once a week, but actively deters people from starting them. “I say, skip it,” he says. “You need to invest $50 million to get any presence” in the social-networking space right now and it’s very difficult to get people to leave established sites. What’s more, he says, the amount of traffic needed to build a lucrative traffic-driven Web site is far more than most new Web entrepreneurs realize: “Until you get to the point where you have a million page views a day, you’re nowhere.”

Is Michael Jackson Alive??

Published by bjobson under Entertainment Edit This

First of all let me make it clear that I do not in any way believe this mess, but I will let tou guys judge for yourself. I guess it was only a matter of time before the rumors and hoaxes started up. We have another Tupac situation on our hands it seems. Check it out via HipHopBlog:

michaeljackson2_aug25.jpg

“Folks, let us preface this video by saying in no way, shape or form do we believe what the person who uploaded it is saying. That said, the snoop behind this clip insists that the King, who would have celebrating his 51st birthday on Saturday, is still alive. I know, I know. What the hell are they smokin’?

Don’t know, but here’s the statement that came with the tape: “This video shows that Michael was still alive after his dead body was transported to the Los Angeles Dept. of Coroner I checked the license plate number and it looks like the King of Pop s jumping out of the same van, his dead body has been in. I got the original video tape from a trustworthy source. I know him for years. And I am sure it’s real and Michael is alive.”

See for yourself…”

Chris Brown News!

Published by bjobson under Entertainment, Politics Edit This

I thought they already determined this guys’ punishment a couple months ago. Rihanna has already said back then that a 5 year restraining order was way too harsh for Chris Brown. Well, I guess that wasn’t official and now the official sentence has been handed down. Peep it:

chris-brown-looks-innocent.jpg

“A judge on Tuesday sentenced Chris Brown to five years’ probation and six months’ community labor for the beating of Rihanna and ordered the R&B singer to stay away from his former girlfriend for the next five years.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg told Brown that he could be sent to state prison if he violated any terms of his sentence, including an order to stay 100 yards away from Rihanna unless they’re attending music industry events.

A probation report prepared for Tuesday’s sentencing describes two previous violent incidents. It said the first happened about three months before the February beating while the couple was traveling in Europe; Rihanna slapped Brown during an argument, and he shoved her into a wall. In the second instance, Brown allegedly broke the front and passenger side windows on a Range Rover they were driving while visiting Barbados, Rihanna’s home country. Neither attack was reported, the probation report states.

Brown will serve his sentence in his home state — Virginia — and his community labor will be overseen by the police chief in Richmond.

The judge said she wanted to ensure that Brown, 20, performs physical labor instead of community service, such as mentoring young people. He will also undergo a year of domestic violence counseling.

Rihanna did not attend Tuesday’s sentencing.

At one point, Brown, who was accompanied by his mother, agreed to the terms of the sentence before Schnegg had finished going through them all.

The hearing had been planned for Thursday afternoon, but Brown’s lawyer, Mark Geragos, asked to move up the singer’s sentencing to Tuesday. A previous attempt to sentence Brown was postponed when Schnegg said she hadn’t received adequate assurances that Brown would perform physical labor if allowed to serve probation in Virginia.

The judge said she was satisfied with a letter presented by Geragos that Richmond Police Chief Bryan T. Norwood will directly oversee Brown’s labor program.

After Brown pleaded guilty to felony assault in June, Schnegg ordered the pair to stay away from each other and to not contact one another. Her order Tuesday essentially extended that until Brown completes his sentence.

Donald Etra, Rihanna’s attorney, has said he didn’t think the strict rules were necessary, but that he and Rihanna favored a less-stringent ruling that simply ordered Brown not to annoy, harass or molest the 21-year-old pop singer. He said after Tuesday’s hearing that Rihanna did not object to the stay-away order, which allows the former couple to be within 10 yards of each other if they are attending music industry events.

Schnegg said she was aware of reports that Brown had been spotted on several occasions in the same places as Rihanna.

“I am not amused with the chatter that has been on the airwaves and any violation of your probation in this case comes with the potential for state prison,” Schnegg told Brown.

A felony charge of making criminal threats was dropped during Tuesday’s sentencing.

“We feel that the sentence for Mr. Brown is an equitable one,” said Sandi Gibbons, a district attorney’s spokeswoman. “He has his future in his hands. He has control of his fate.”

Gibbons said Brown’s charge could eventually be reduced to a misdemeanor if he completes his sentence.

Brown was arrested Feb. 8, hours after he was accused of beating Rihanna.

The attack occurred in Los Angeles’ Hancock Park neighborhood as Brown drove a rented sports car. A Los Angeles police detective described a brutal attack in a search warrant affidavit filed in the case, stating Brown hit, choked and bit Rihanna and tried at one point to push her from the car.

Brown’s career suffered after his arrest, with sponsors dropping him and radio stations refusing to play his music. Both he and Rihanna had to cancel several high-profile appearances, including planned performances at the Grammy Awards the day of the attack.

In a probation report released after the sentencing, Brown is quoted as saying he was “depressed” since the attack and that he “‘does not want to carry on that cycle.’”

The report included letters of support for Brown from RCA/Jive Label Group Chairman Barry Weiss as well as an entertainment lawyer and a pastor.”

Bolt gets piece of Berlin Wall—huge piece!

I didn’t get it at first, but I guess it’s their way of helping Usain Bolt to always remember where he broke two of the most celebrated records in all of track and field. Check the scoop right here:

bolt.jpg

” BERLIN (AP)—Usain Bolt was honored by the city of Berlin by receiving an original segment of the Berlin Wall—nearly three tons of it.
The Jamaican sprinter, who broke world records in winning gold medals in the 100 and 200 meters, was presented with the piece of wall at a small ceremony Sunday, the final day of the world championships.
The 12-foot high section will be delivered to Bolt’s training camp in Jamaica.
The piece of the wall, which divided communist East Berlin from West Berlin between 1961 and 1989, is decorated with a life-size painting of Bolt running on the blue track of the Olympic stadium and the words “NEW WR”—new world record. Bolt set a world record in the 100 at 9.58 seconds and 19.19 in the 200.
“I will never forget Berlin,” Bolt said at the ceremony. “Ich bin ein Berlino.”
The bear mascot of the championships is called Berlino, while the phrase “ich bin ein Berliner” was used by former President John F. Kennedy during a visit to West Berlin.
Berlin Mayor Klaus Wowereit said Bolt had shown that “one can tear down walls that had been considered as insurmountable.”
The Berlin Wall came down in 1989, as communism was collapsing in Eastern Europe.”

Lyric- Let The Beat Ride

Published by bjobson under Entertainment Edit This

I don’t about you, but I remember back in middle school we use to do this. We would make beats on the cafeteria tables during lunch time with two pens. Pens always worked better than pencils though. Pencils never gave you a good popping sound when you were making the beat. Anyway…check homey out.
