What’s Up With The Mobile Blood Drive Trucks?

Published by bjobson at 9:19 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Here’s something for you to sip on. Let me first start out by making it perfectly clear that i have nothing against donating blood and especially nothing against helping those that are in need. I’m sure that we have all seen those mobile blood drive trucks before, and i’m sure one of the people from the truck has came up to you and tried to get you to donate blood. Now if you have donated with them that’s perfectly fine; I’m not knocking you at all.

I do have a couple of issues with them that’s been pushing my nerves for quite some time now though. Let me elaborate.

The majority of the workers that they have trying to lure you over to the truck are young females. Has anyone ever noticed that all of them are actually pretty easy on the eyes too? Well, as if that’s not bad enough, I’ve noticed that they are using sex to lure you into donating blood. That is just simply wrong. When they say “Excuse me sir, would you mind helping us out today?,” they expect you to turn around and say “Sure i will.” If the prospect is a male then the worker sometimes starts to flirt with you subtly as if you’re just some weak male meat head that can’t resist any amount of sexual temptation. Well listen up….that trick is not going to fool me and shame on you if you’ve let it fool you.

The next problem are the locations that they choose to setup and haggle you at.  I am a member of the 24 Hour Fitness Shaq-Sport gym in Pembroke Pines. The mobile blood drive is parked at the front door about 2-3 times a week. When you donate blood you’re supposed to rest afterward and not do too much strenuous activities. They always have food and Gatorade or Powerade for you when you finish to help your body strengthen itself and rejuvenate so i guess THEY don’t see where the problem lies here.

If i am going to the gym then obviously i had made plans to get a work out in and then go back home and handle whatever business it is that i need to do. If i donate blood then how am i supposed to work out? My chances of fainting due to lack of blood and oxygen in my body will be greatly increased if i attempt to work out after donating. So now that i have donated, i can’t even work out anymore. I have to turn around and go home and try to recuperate. On the flip side of this is when they attack you coming out of the gym. I just worked out and Im sweaty, tired, and maybe even a little light headed so how in the world does it make sense for me to donate a pint of blood that i currently need after that strenuous workout that i just endured? Sounds like a recipe for passing out once again. If you’re a college student and you have some studying to do for a mid-term or final, or maybe you have to get ready for work really soon, how are you supposed to go about your regularly scheduled daily activities if you can barely even stand up and keep your eyes open at the same time? Some of us have a lot to do every day and aren’t just couch potatoes so we need as much energy as we can get thank you.

Might I add also that the decision to set up outside of your local Regal Cinemas is also a bad decision. Who shows up an hour in advance to watch a movie? If i donate blood before i even get into the theater then how do you expect me to watch the whole movie?

Stop hanging out by the parking lot at college campuses also. I’m sick and tired of seeing them there too. Dude, it’s now 11:50 and my class starts at 12:00. I have a homework assignment to turn in and a quiz to take. I really don’t have the time to be late.

Look, here’s some advice for all you mobile blood drive people: if you want a good spot to set-up your operation then be outside of a buffet restaurant. That has to be the best location. Think about it. The people walking out are already stuffed so you really don’t have to feed them and they are probably going to fall asleep soon anyway so it makes perfect sense to haggle them if you ask me. Sip on that!!!
